She skipped down the sidewalk

From star to tarnished star.

Singing a song known only to her.

She paused to smile back at me,

To tell me all she dreamed she'd be.

In that brief moment, suddenly,

I knew this world wasn't mine

That every moment, every line

I've drawn to build the future on was hers.

Every vote, and every choice

Every time I raised my voice,

I was laying stars like paving stones,

All I'd built was hers to own.

And soon she would shine brilliantly

Far brighter than the likes of me,

And never have I know such pride

As I walked at her side,

While she skipped from star to star.

Reminding me of all we are.
