In Memory of the victims of the Pulse Nightclub shooting June 12, 2016
The pulse stopped
Hearts ceased to beat,
The ground fell from beneath our feet.
And in the echo rang Forbidden love.
And the tears fall like rain
but still could not wash away the pain,
For those who cannot love again,
who lost their forbidden love.
Why is our love so condemned,
When we all need love to survive?
It's love that makes us feel alive,
and yet we suffer our forbidden love.
Why turn the colors gray?
Why scorch them till they fade?
And scream "If only they had not strayed,
Into a forbidden love."
And why is our love forbidden?
For what is it that creates the heart?
Is it nature or a refined art?
Why choose forbidden love?
But why should we deny the feeling?
Why should we have to hide,
And bury all our pride,
In our forbidden love?
Why do so many fear us?
What makes them force our fate,
They punish us with their seething hate.
They scream "Forbidden Love"
Are we really born as sinners?
What have we done to cause this spite?
How come we are left to fight,
as so many deny us our forbidden love?
But why is it so wrong?
When all we ask is to have the same
to live without fear and love without shame.
Why condemn us to forbidden love?
And why do you turn our tragedy
Take our pain to be debated?
When we are left here devastated
At the lost forbidden love?
Or you say you side with us
but use us in your stupid games
and forget our lost had names?
You falsely flaunt our forbidden love.
And your questions lack respect,
"It's not like you were there,
So I don't know why you care?"
But we all felt the lost forbidden love.
Though we may be spread apart,
and we may not know each other,
We are all sisters and brothers,
connected by forbidden love.
While the shock ran though the world
We felt the loss as if we were one,
How could a stranger and his gun
End so many lives over forbidden love.
We lost more that our loved ones.
We lost the ground we had gained,
for years it will not be the same,
for the fear of our forbidden love.
Tonight please fly our banner.
Please look to the stars.
See where the new ones are,
as they shine for their forbidden love.
Please put aside your hate tonight,
And please recall the names.
Light candles, spread the flame.
Don't suffocate our forbidden love.
