Faded flowers on the shelf,
A jar of marbles full of dust
What memories are you reliving
In your world so far from me?
I wish I knew what it is you see.
You filled my head with songs and stories,
but didn't share the dark with me.
Now the past has come to claim you,
And all that's left now is a shadow,
Of the person that I knew.
I've met you for the hundredth time,
And I always remind you of me,
Not as I am, but as I was
Before life collected her due
And now, it seems, she's taking you.
Somehow we stand as total strangers
Though I've known you all my life.
While the world keeps blooming
You fade like flowers on the shelf.
A total stranger to yourself…
